Mark Breon is a Consultant for Spectrum Health University (SH|U), a part of Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is responsible for creating and administrating learning and development programs that aim to identify, develop and retain high-potential employees within Spectrum Health. Within its first year, SH|U received a national award for its innovative communications and branding strategy.
Prior to his current role, Mark spent five years as the Operations Manager for the Spectrum Health Regional Hospital Network, where he was responsible for developing and executing strategic revenue-generating and patient quality & safety initiatives for the 21-member network, whose hospitals comprised of over 25,000 employees and 3,500 physicians.
Mark is actively involved in the community, through board leadership and volunteerism. He is a co-founder and current board chair of PRConnect, a young professional board that works with the Pine Rest Foundation to break down stigmas around behavioral health care withGeneration Y. Mark also currently serves on the following boards: Grand Rapids Young Professionals Advisory Board, Hope Network President’s Council, Arthritis Foundation Advisory Council, Grand Rapids Plus, Spectrum Health Community Council and Spectrum Health Young Professionals Council. He is also the co-founder and immediate past chair for NextGen United Way, and previously served on the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre Junior Board and Leading For Our Kids.
Mark is a 2011 graduate of the Emerging Leaders Series, offered by the Grand Rapids Center for Community Leadership. Mark is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and Grand Rapids Economic Club.
Mark has undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Indiana University, and a Masters in Health Administration from Grand Valley State University, where he was the recipient of the Graduate Dean’s Citation for Academic Excellence with Excellence in Service to Community or Profession.
